Today marks Earth Hour 2010.

Earth Hour is a stand against climate change.  It’s inception gave birth in 2007 in Sydney, Australia.  2.2 million homes and businesses were reported to have turned off their lights for one hour.  Two years later, Earth Hour 2009, reported over 4000 cities in 88 countries participated in the annual event equating to millions of people and businesses turning off their lights.

Earth Hour 2010 will be observed between 8:30-9:30 PM EST. It is more than just turning off your lights.  It is about a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world.  Earth Hour is about standing up, getting involved, and taking ownership & responsibility to help sustain our planet.

Known climate change impacts include global warming, atmospheric carbon dioxide, and arctic melting.  For every one of these impacts there is an argument for and against it.  The fact still remains that the earth is noticibly warmer and Antarctica’s ice sheet is shrinking at an increased rate.

The old proverb “prevention is better than cure” rings true… and this my dear friends is what Earth Hour is about.  Taking proactive measures today for a safer and better tomorrow.

3-2-1… light’s out!

How will you recognize and show your support for Earth Hour?
