“Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with shades of deeper meaning.”

~Maya Angelou, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

Words can be very hurtful; they are like a two-sided sword.  At best, they slice into you with a clean, sharpened blade.  At worse, they maul you like a dull, jagged dagger; penetrating and tearing your soul to pieces… pieces beyond recognition.

I’m sure you’ve heard many times before, “it’s not what you say, but how you say it”, and in most instances this is true.  However, there are times that one’s choice of words, as well as the tone and inflection leaves the deepest, most agonizing wounds.

Be careful of the words you use.  Choose your words wisely, and do not let anger or frustration speak for you.  Should you find yourself experiencing a sudden or overwhelming burst of emotions, take a step back… say nothing;  simply walk away.

Some things are best left unsaid.  Sometimes silence is all we need.  There is an eerie loudness when the air is silent, as our senses are heightened.

As easily as they provide comfort and encouragement, words can just as easily bring on an onset of heartache and pain.

Choose your words wisely… they can be very hurtful… not only to others, but to yourself also.

That’s the thing about two-sided swords… they cut both ways, and although you may hold the handle, you inflict wounds to yourself with each push of the blade.
